Καριέρα στη Βρετανική θεατρική
σκηνή κάνει η Ελληνίδα ηθοποιός Νικολέττα Θωμά. Η ταλαντούχα και διαρκώς ανερχόμενη ηθοποιός από την Πάτρα θα πρωταγωνιστήσει στη θεατρική παράσταση «Sleeping Soldiers»
σε κείμενα-σκηνοθεσία της Meghan
Crosby. Η παράσταση που συνδυάζει το κλασικό θέατρο με το
σωματικό-κινησιολογικό θα κάνει πρεμιέρα στον πολυχώρο C , στο Εδιμβούργο της Σκωτίας στις 31 Ιουλίου και θα
διαρκέσει μέχρι τις 10 Αυγούστου. Η Ελληνίδα ηθοποιός θα υποδυθεί την Αφγανή μητέρα
Anoosheh που έρχεται σε «αντιπαράθεση», αλλά και «προσέγγιση» με τον αξιωματικό
του Αμερικανικού Στρατού Jim.
Σύμφωνα με τη συγγραφέα-σκηνοθέτη
Meghan Crosby το έργο της αυτό ανήκει στη νέα "γενιά-φυλή"του λεγόμενου θεάτρου κίνησης και εν μέρει πηγή έμπνευσης
για να το γράψει ήταν οι φωτογραφίες που τράβηξε ο σπουδαίος φωτορεπόρτερ Tim
Hetherington. Είναι
ένα ειρηνικό στοίχημα ενάντια στον
πόλεμο με την πρωτοποριακή χορογραφία και τις κινήσεις σε αντιπαράθεση σε συνδυασμό με την ταυτόχρονη
σκηνοθετημένη απαγγελία –εκφώνηση ποίησης.
Είναι ένα κομμάτι για τους στρατιώτες. Δεν είναι μόνο οι στρατιώτες που
μεταφέρουν όπλα σε επίθεση, αλλά κι εκείνοι
που αναπτύσσουν αιχμηρή συμπεριφορά προκειμένου να αγωνιστούν για αυτούς που αγαπούν. Τιμά κι
εξυψώνει τους θιασώτες της θυσίας: μητέρες, συζύγους , αδέλφια,
θείες, και τους φίλους, την ίδια ώρα που αποκαλύπτει τι ονειρεύονται οι πολεμιστές. Το έργο καταδεικνύει το
περιεχόμενο των ονείρων των δύο υποτιθέμενων εχθρών, του Αξιωματικού του Αμερικανικού
Στρατού Jim, και της Αφγανής μητέρας Anoosheh, δείχνει γιατί φοβούνται τόσο πολύ να κοιμηθούν τη νύχτα και γιατί τους είναι προτιμότερη η απόλυτη
εξάντληση. Μέρος των εσόδων θα διατεθεί
για την κίνηση:«Women for Women
International».
Α talented and gifted Greek
actress Nikoletta Thoma will play the character of “Anoosheh”, an Afgani mother
in Meghan Crosby’s theatrical play “Sleeping Soldiers”. The premiere is
scheduled on July 31 in Edinburgh.
About the Cause
According to the writer-director Meghan Crosby, “Sleeping Soldiers” was
inspired by the work of the late photojournalist Tim Hetherington who took a series
of photographs of the same name. When I saw these images at a conference about
Conflict in the 21st Century last spring, I immediately thought, "I have
to write about these." A year later, and the play is written, the venue at
the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is booked, and I have a ridiculously talented
production team lined up, but no funding other than my earnings from a
part-time job. Please help get this show to the Fringe so I can share the story
of Tim Hetherington, of so many soldiers who suffer from PTSD, of civilians negatively impacted by war, and
of families mourning from loved ones in danger or loved ones lost. The proceeds
from ticket sales from this production will go to Women for Women International,
a wonderful charity that helps women who have been displaced by war and harmed
physically and emotionally because of violence. The more money I make from your
generous help, the more proceeds I can donate to WfWI instead of using that
money for set, costume, and venue costs. So not only do your funds help put on
a production challenging relations of soldiers and civilians, particularly in
Afghanistan, but they go to real women who have been harmed by war.

About the Play
"This project, Sleeping Soldiers, is a new breed of movement theatre. It
is a peaceful wager against war with innovative choreographed movements
juxtaposed with simultaneously read aloud stage direction poetry. It is a piece
for soldiers. Not just soldiers carrying assault weapons, but those who wield
the heart’s sharp point to fight for those they love. It honors the sovereigns
of sacrifice: mothers, husbands, brothers, aunts, and friends, as it conjures
what warriors dream, in the monstrous, mundane, and moving. The play
demonstrates the content of the dreams of two supposed enemies, U.S. Army
Lieutenant Jim, and Afghani mother Anoosheh, showing why they are so afraid to
sleep at night and why sheer exhaustion is preferable. These unlikely
companions soon discover in real life and in dreams, they are warring for the
same aim. Sleeping Soldiers is unlike anything the Fringe or the entire
theatrical world has seen with its experimentation with poetic language,
audible stage directions, overlapping voiceovers, and other-worldly dream
movements.
I want to take this play to Edinburgh because it shouts
the stories of real Americans, real Afghanis, and real fighters everywhere. The
forty-seven countries represented at the fringe have all been touched by war in
some way, and here they will see the relationship formed when we discover that
we are all struggling to keep the peace within our minds at night when vagrant
memory threatens reality. But when we share our fears, we come closer to
accepting them and each other.
